Dr. Nirosh Jayaweera

Dr. Nirosh Jayaweera is a Senior Lecturer in this Department, who joined the University staff in December, 2011. He is a PhD (Advanced Manufacturing specialised in Robotics and Aerospace), MSc (Manufacturing Systems Engineering), BSc (Mechanical Engineering) graduate with over six years of post-doctoral research expertise in the development of robotic and automated systems for aerospace industry including Airbus, Rolls Royce, Bombardier Aerospace and Volvo Aero Corporation. He also has over four years of industry experience in vast area of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Jayaweera is a registered Chartered Engineer in the UK and a Senior Member of Society of Manufacturing Engineers (USA) and a Member of IET (UK) and IEEE (USA). Dr. Jayaweera has published a significant number of research papers in scientific journals, conference proceedings in the fields of aircraft structures and aero-engines, advanced manufacturing, assembly automation, automotive engineering and advanced tooling and fixturing systems. He has also significantly contributed for technical reports in his academic and industrial careers. His expertise within industry is new product design and development, production planning & logistics, design review, costing, quality control, co-ordination and administration. Furthermore, he is a reviewer of several international Journals and conferences including Robotics and Computer Integrated manufacturing, Assembly Automation, Industrial Robots, and SAE Aerospace Manufacturing and Automated Fastening conference.

2010-2011         Winner of the outstanding paper award, “Measurement assisted robotic assembly of fabricated aero-engine components”published in journal of Assembly Automation was chosen as the outstanding paper award winner at the Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2011.

2011-2012         Outstanding Reviewer Award at theLiterati Network Awards for Excellence 2012.This award is for very impressive and significant contribution made as a reviewer to Assembly Automation journal throughout 2011.

2002-2005         Fully funded PhD scholarship,Awarded by the Nottingham Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre and Bombardier Aerospace, UK.
