Completion of the Japan – Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science

Meeting with Dean of University of Miyazaki
A group of ten from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Moratuwa was participated in the end of January for the Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science (Sakura Exchange Program in Science), which was implemented as a collaboration between University of Miyazaki and University of Moratuwa. This collaboration was initiated by Prof. Hiroki Tamura form Department of Environmental Robotics, Faculty of Engineering, University of Miyazaki and Dr. Y.W.R. Amarasinghe.

Guest Lecture on Passenger Car: Trends, Development and Opportunity for Research

Lecture highlighted the rapid evolution process automobile has undergone since its invention, in terms of technology and consumer focus. Significant changes due to the introduction of electrical powertrain and research areas such as autonomous cars, emission control and fuel-economy were discussed.

External Review of Department of Mechanical Engineering

For the next four-year period, department is going to obtain IESL accreditation which is under the standards of IMechE (UK). An external review was held as a step for this process. The external review was conducted by Prof. Richard Stobart, (MA(Hons). FIMechE) Emeritus Professor of Engineering at Loughborough University.

MEng/PG Diploma in Manufacturing Systems Engineering, 2017

Department of Mechanical Engineering of University of Moratuwa started the M.Eng/PG Dip. In Manufacturing Systems Engineering, this June. Dr. Manoj Ranaweera is the course coordinator. Advanced Aspects of Manufacturing, Computer Integration of Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering will be covered in the program. The Annual General Meeting of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, University of Moratuwa Student Chapter was held on Thursday 31st of August 2017 at the Chemical Engineering Seminar Room, University of Moratuwa.
