Inauguration of the 9th intake of MEng/PG Diploma in Energy Technology

The inauguration of the 9th intake of the MEng/PG Diploma programme on Energy Technology of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Moratuwa took place on16th of February 2013  . The event was held at the ‘Mech Hub’. The chief guest for the event was Eng Parakrama Jayasinghe, President, Bio-Energy Association of Sri Lanka and the guest of honour was Dr Thusitha Sugathapala, Director General, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority.

The twenty four registrants of the course and the invited guests were ushered to their seats by representatives of the 8th intake. The event formally started by singing the national anthem and lighting the traditional oil lamp. Dr VPC Dassanayake, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering delivered the welcome address. This was followed by the speeches by Prof UGA Puswewala, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Prof RA Attalage, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the university. Eng Parakrama Jayasinghe, the chief guest made an interesting presentation on “Future of energy for Sri Lanka: A long term goal and short term strategies”. Guest of honour Dr Sugathapala’s, enlightening presentation focused on Understanding Energy for Sustainability. After sharing the experience of a past student of the programme, a student from the current intake also expressed their views on choosing to follow this course. Finally, Dr HKG Punchihewa, Course Coordinator, MEng/PG Diploma in Energy Technology programme delivered the vote of thanks and invited the guests and the students for refreshments. Emeritus Prof PA De Silva, Prof MARV Fernando, Dr PG Rathnasiri, Dr MMID Manthilake, Dr M Narayana and lecturers from the Department of Mechanical Engineering were also present at the event.
